What We Believe

Statement of Faith

At New Life City Church, we believe that faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation for a meaningful and purposeful life. Our statement of faith reflects our commitment to the teachings of the Bible and our desire to follow Jesus in all aspects of our lives. As a community of believers, we are united in our core beliefs, even as we embrace diversity and respect differences in our personal convictions. Our statement of faith provides a concise summary of our beliefs and values, and we invite you to read it and explore the foundations of our faith.

The Scriptures

God

We believe that the Holy Bible was written by divinely inspired men, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried. (2 Tim. 3:15-16, Ps. 119:60, 2 Pet. 1:21))
We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, whose name is JEHOVAH, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven who knows all things immediately and comprehensively; inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. (Is. 45:22, Deut. 32:4, Rom. 11:33, Ps. 90:2)

Jesus

Holy Spirit

We believe that Jesus Christ eternally exists; He came to earth in human form from God the Father through the Virgin Mary. He created all things, He worked miracles, He forgave sins, He received worship, and He has power over life and death. Jesus is fully God and fully man and one unified Person with distinct Divine and human natures. (Jn. 1:1, 12-14, IS. 7:14, 1 Jn. 2:2)
We believe the Holy Spirit is a divine Person, equal with God the Father and God the Son. The Holy Spirit indwells every true believer. Presently the work of the Holy Spirit includes conviction, prayer, teaching, sealing and giving gifts. (Jn. 14:26, 16:8, Acts 1:8, Rom. 8:26-27)

Fall of Man

Creation

We believe that man was created in holiness, under the law of his Maker, but by voluntary transgression fell from that holy and happy state. In consequence of this, all mankind are now sinners, not by constraint but by choice; being by void of holiness, positively inclined to evil, and therefore under just condemnation to eternal ruin, without defense or excuse. (Rom. 3:23, 5:12, Gen. 1:27, Gal. 3:19)
We believe that God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, in the beginning, by the word of His power, as recorded in Genesis, made from nothing the heavens and the earth and all things therein, and that all things were made very good. (Gen. 1:1, Jn. 1:3)

Salvation

Sanctification

We believe that salvation is the eternal gift of our sovereign God, apart from works, brought to man by grace and received by repentance from sin, and by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His shed blood. (Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 6:23, 10:9-13, Titus 3:5)
We believe that sanctification is the process by which, according to the will of God, we are made partakers of His holiness; that it is a progressive work; that it is begun at salvation; and that it is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. (2 Thess. 2:13, Gal. 2:20)

Church

Angels

We believe in the universal church, a living organism of which Christ is the head and all saved persons are members. We believe in the local church, a body of believers, united by covenant. We practice believer’s baptism by immersion and observe the Lord’s Table. We believe that the two offices of the church are elders (including pastors) and deacons. (Eph. 1:22-23, Heb. 10:24-25, Matt. 16:18)
We believe angels were directly created by God as spirit beings capable of desire, knowing, and communicating. Though they are more powerful than man, their power is limited. Good angels continually worship God while fallen angels are absolutely opposed to God. (Ps. 148:2, 5, Ez. 28:15, Heb. 2:2)

World to Come

Marriage

We believe that at any time Christ will descend bodily from heaven, and bodily raise the dead from the grave to final retribution and reward; that a solemn separation will take place; that the wicked will be sentenced to endless punishment, and the righteous to endless joy and glorification; and that this judgment will fix forever the final state of men in heaven or hell, on principles of righteousness. (1 Cor. 15:51-52, 2 Cor. 5:1, 1 Pet. 1:3, 2)
We believe that marriage is a covenant made before God between a man and a woman that models the relationship between Christ and the church. (Gen. 2:23-24, Matt. 19:4-6, Eph. 5:22-27)
